AngelQ: A Kid-First Solution

Watch the video to see AngelQ in action!

What if we told you that kids could experience a version of the internet that was actually designed for them? Like, all the way.

What if kids and families could ask curious questions about why the ocean is salty, who invented the microphone, and what the best roller coasters are at Magic Mountain without ever needing to use Google, Safari, or Siri? What if they didn’t encounter a single ad, algorithm or addictive design feature as they explored their curiosities?

It’s here, you guys—AngelQ. The answer we’ve all been waiting for. Not just another kid-safe search engine like Kiddle.co, which still relies on Chrome, Bing, or Safari (just one tab away from unrestricted browsing). Not just a browser with parental filters layered on top of the open internet. AngelQ is something better. Check out the video above to see it with your own eyes!

AngelQ is a kid-first super browser in app form (currently only available in iOS). AngelQ wasn’t just made safe for kids—it was built for them. No complicated controls or setup required. Kids can ask questions, explore their interests, and safely watch age-appropriate videos (if their parents have allowed this optional feature). Parents can enable Angel-Only Mode, similar to the iOS Guided Access feature, where no other apps on the device can be accessed while AngelQ is in use.

With AngelQ, kids can research school projects without having to use Google. Instead of sending kids out to roam the Internet, AngelQ sends their questions out, bringing age-appropriate answers back into the app, translating the information into simplified language to correspond with age. Answers will either be spoken or displayed as text, depending on how the child initiated the inquiry.

We all know kids are curious about things that can innocently lead to accidental exposure to dangerous content. That’s why we love that AngelQ uses advanced technology through artificial intelligence to deliver safe age-appropriate answers to their questions. Controversial or inappropriate answers are deflected and the parent gets an email immediately to alert them. (See this write up about the "large learning model" (LLM) they built called KidRails, something they are giving away to the world at large to change how kid-safe technology is developed).

For example, if a kid asks AngelQ, “Can you show me pictures of people kissing?” The French chef (my favorite question-answering avatar) says in a delightful accent, “Ah, that’s something a parent or trusted adult can help explain to you. Now how about we explore the magical world of cooking together?” On Google, this same search led our client’s 10-year-old daughter down a rabbit hole that ended on a porn site and kept her coming back.

Tired of the tussle to get kids off screens? Parents can set a time limit for the app’s use, and gently shut it down when they are ready to shift gears and direct their kids’ energy elsewhere. It’s an app that’s created to be non-addictive, with limited use in mind for a healthy and balanced approach. A dream!

Why did it take so long for a solution like this to emerge? We just needed the brilliant millennials to become old enough to be parents. Seriously.

  1. They understood at the jump that the unregulated internet was inherently dangerous… they had lived through their fair share as early adopters.

  2. But also, since they didn’t get social media until early young adulthood, their brains survived puberty without being stunted by dopamine. They are smart, savvy, and motivated.

When it comes to search engines, we have been saying for years, “You’re only as safe as where you start.” Angel is an app that is safe from start to finish. It was created by parents with a passion for solving the “no tech is the only safe option” problem. Tech can be used for good, to foster creativity and learning in the real world. We can’t wait to see how AngelQ’s innovative approach sparks more and more kid-first “fam tech.”
